A New Vision for the District
As the 2026-27 school year begins, the Mount Vernon City School District is under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Demario Strickland. In a series of visits to the district's 13 schools, Dr. Strickland emphasized that his primary focus for the upcoming year will be on improving student literacy rates and boosting daily attendance.
Commitment to Transparency
Beyond academic goals, Dr. Strickland has pledged a renewed commitment to transparency regarding the district's finances. This initiative comes on the heels of a challenging budget cycle earlier this year, where the community ultimately approved a revised $275.5 million budget in June after an initial proposal was rejected by voters in May.
Technology and Family Engagement
To support these goals, the district is rolling out new technology across its campuses. These tools are designed to expand access for families and ensure that parents remain informed and engaged with their children's educational progress throughout the year. The administration aims to foster a collaborative environment where student voice is valued and supported.
